Client: Resident of Hockley Valley
Project Description: Hockley Valley – Assistance with NVCA Application
Time Line: September 2010 to June 2011
Project Manager: Tom Darlow
Client Category: Private Sector
Service Category: Watershed Management
SBA had been retained by a local resident to develop a work plan to assist Mr. Hickey in the completion of the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) Application. SBA began the work plan by meeting with the NVCA to commence the application process where a site visit was conducted to confirm a full flow modeling requirement for the site. All necessary information was obtained to complete the modeling, as were any concerns regarding the completed application. A topographical survey was conducted in order to obtain sufficient detail of the property to develop a base map for river floodplain modeling. From there, SBA developed a site specific HEC-RAS model to determine the actual flooding of the property. The model included various river cross sections on the property as well as upstream and downstream cross sections as control points. A brief report was prepared detailing the modeling parameters and details in order for a necessary technical review to be completed by the NVCA engineers.
SBA successfully completed this project in collaboration with Mr. Hickey, the NVCA, government agencies and non-government agencies.
S. Burnett & Associates Limited will provide engineering support to complete the NVCA Application, providing all supporting documents, research and models to show the application should be approved.
