Project Description:
S. Burnett & Associates Limited was retained by Asubpeeschoseewagong First Nation also known as Grassy Narrows First Nation to complete the design of the interim upgrades to existing water treatment plant (WTP) to remove the Boil Water Advisory. The community’s original WTP has reached the end of its design capacity and is not capable of effectively treating the surface water supply to meet Ontario Federal Standards and ultimately has put the community on a Boil Water Advisory (BWA) since June 2014.
The National Water Assessment has identified the existing WTP as a high-risk facility in regard to health and safety with a major concern being the inability for this facility to accommodate surface water quality changes throughout the seasons. Construction is currently underway for this project. With SBA’s help, the upgrades will improve the treatment process and allow the plant to achieve the Log Removal Credits (LRC) required to lift the current BWA. The upgrades to the community’s water system also includes the extension of the distribution network which allows communal servicing of the members residing in Snake Point and Mission Hill.
