Project Description:
S. Burnett & Associates Limited (SBA) was retained to complete the water supply, treatment, and distribution for the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN). The community has been on multiple Boil Water Advisories and the Umbrella Drinking Water Advisory has been imposed since 2008, prohibiting residents from drinking water.
SBA has determined the best solution for developing a competent and reliable water source, treatment, and distribution system to lift the long-standing advisories and provide healthy access to water. This new design will provide potable water for the next 20-years of community growth.
The treatment process selected is a conventional treatment package with UV disinfection. The SBA team also assisted MSIFN in obtaining $6.9 million in SCF funding and $4.3 million in ISC funding towards the $18 million solution which is currently under the latest stage of the construction and expected to be commissioned before the spring.
