The SBA Team - Stephen

Stephen Burnett - P.Eng.

Principal
Bio

Stephen has extensive experience in project management, environmental assessment, water, wastewater infrastructure design and system assessments, waste management, municipal building design, and capital planning and contract administration. Over the past 20 years, he has provided engineering services and expert advice to Municipal and First Nation clients in these areas of expertise.

As the Principal of SBA, Stephen can provide timely and accurate responses to your questions related to technical administrative matters and his field of expertise. Your lead is our lead so you won’t wait to get the answers or responses that you deserve in a timely fashion. He is very experienced in examining services based on capital cost, operation and maintenance, life cycle analysis, environmental concerns, future expandability and public input so that municipalities can plan for the long term. Stephen will act as the Lead for the Engineering Team, providing clear and concise direction to each member to ensure that the expert advice is provided in the most cost effective manner possible.

David Dagenais - A.Sc.T.

General Manager
Bio

David is a Senior Design and Construction Technologist within the areas of water and wastewater treatment and municipal infrastructure design and construction. His 25+ years of experience span many projects within municipal and First Nation environments throughout Ontario and the western provinces.

David's experience includes various projects involving assessments, approvals, specification document preparation and contract administration for infrastructure, roadway reconstruction, commissioning, start-up and performance testing operations management. He has clients within the public and private sector and has considerable experience working with Municipalities. David was the Public Works Director for the Town of Chapleau and is very aware of a town’s engineering needs. At SBA, David provides senior technical support on various types of infrastructure projects including the co-ordination, design review, technical report preparation and O&M maintenance manuals. He has applied his expertise in a number of areas including projects involving water supply, treatment, storage and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; pumping stations, including the assessment of existing infrastructure assets. David will support Stephen to ensure the continuation of timely and expert opinions during times of illness, vacationing, etc. As SBA's QA/QC reviewer, David is always versed in all aspects of SBA's ongoing project files.

The SBA Team - Peter

PETER LUCE - B.SC., P.ENG.

Senior Project Manager & Business Development
Bio

Peter Luce is a Senior Project Manager and Client Liaison and has extensive experience in project management, environmental and capital planning and engineering for First Nation projects. Project experience over the past thirty (30) years includes planning, detailed design, implementation and operation and maintenance.

Peter has worked exclusively with First Nation communities over the past twenty (20) years and has assisted them with improving their communities through better environmental management, infrastructure systems, and economic development. He is familiar with the environmental regulations in Canada at both the Provincial and Federal level with related experience in over fifty (50) First Nation communities in Ontario. Peter is very familiar with the First Nation communities and will provide the necessary understanding of the issues and concerns that the communities face.

LISA JOHNSON - PMP, EP

Senior Environmental Project Manager
Bio

Lisa is a certified environmental and project management professional with specialized expertise in the areas of project management, environmental assessment, community energy planning, and funding opportunity management. 

This combination of skills enables her to successfully identify and seize opportunities to secure funding from a variety of sources, and for a variety of project types, on behalf of our clients. Lisa has successfully identified and secured funds for a multitude of projects ranging from small scale community-based projects to multi-million dollar infrastructure projects.

Lisa has also successfully managed projects requiring Environmental Assessments (EAs) under both the federal and provincial EA processes, as well as numerous of capital planning exercises and feasibility studies for First Nation and Municipal infrastructure projects. Lisa also has expertise in stakeholder engagement, including addressing and responding to stakeholder, agency, and public concerns and inquiries.

Ian Callum - M.Sc., PMP

Senior Environmental Project Manager

Ian is an environmental management professional with 18 years of experience leading and participating in provincial and federal environmental assessments and permitting projects in the power (renewable energy, gas, and nuclear), mining and infrastructure sectors. 

Ian has successfully combined project management and stakeholder engagement skills and experience with a knowledge of environmental permitting processes to obtain approvals for complex projects.

Shahram Zavieh - M.Sc., P.Eng.

Senior Structural Engineer
Bio

Shahram is a dedicated and accomplished structural engineer/project manager with more than 19 years of work experience in bridge, culverts, residential, commercial, industrial buildings and water treatment plants in Canada.

Shahram is highly skilled in providing technical expertise and overseeing contractors and consultants to ensure their work is in compliance with engineering standards and applicable codes, legal requirements, project specifications, and government policies and regulations. He has exceptional leadership skills, including a talent for finding more cost-effective approaches to engineering problems and managing quality assurance. He also has excellent knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC), Ontario Structural Inspection Manual (OSIM) ,Ontario Building Code (OBC), Canadian Steel and concrete design code ,Canadian Timber design code and he also has extensive experience in reporting, project risk identification and mitigation, planning reviews, specifications and condition assessment. Shahram is also involved in the design, inspection and construction of major projects with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), local Municipals in Ontario and other provinces. Shahram is member of Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) more than 14 years.

Daymar Creary - P.Eng.

Civil / Environmental Engineer
Bio

Daymar is a civil and environmental engineer with over nine (9) years of applied design and project management experience. He is a reliable and resourceful professional with the demonstrated ability to implement innovative engineering solutions in the civil and environmental engineering industries.

With his diverse involvement in consulting engineering, contract administration and site supervision, Daymar is experienced in stormwater management designs, geotechnical works, highway engineering, structural analysis and water and wastewater system designs. He is also knowledgeable of environmental, safety and quality control philosophies in the construction industry, and is able to apply construction methodologies and building codes consistent with Canadian standards.

He has applied his experience in a number of areas including: hydraulic modelling of water and wastewater systems, structural assessment of commercial and residential developments, subdivision planning, design and implementation and highway design and construction supervision.

Terrance Gole - H.B.Sc., EMA, EP

Bio

Terrance is a registered environmental management professional who is well versed with regulations at both the Provincial and Federal level.

Throughout the past fifteen years Terrance has performed environmental services for federal, municipal, institutional and international clients in the areas of environmental assessments, water treatment feasibility studies, waste management, site assessment and water quality testing, as well as contract administration and tender development. His diverse experience enables him to provide a variety of environmental and project management services.

Brian Chen - P.Eng.

Structural Engineer
Bio

Brian is a dedicated and self-motivated structural engineer with more than 13 years of work experience in residential, commercial, heavy industrial structures in Canada, Taiwan and Singapore.

Brian has a thorough knowledge of applying the principles of structural engineering through planning, designing and construction phases of projects and provides technical expertise and oversees contractors and consultants to ensure the compliance with applicable codes and standards, project specifications, and government regulations and By-Laws. He has excellent knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC), Design of Steel Structures (S16), Design of Concrete Structures (A23.3) and Engineering Design in Wood (O86). He also has extensive experience in technical reporting, planning reviews, engineering calculations, specifications and retrofitting assessment.

Daniel Schmidt

CAD Design Manager
Bio

Daniel continues to strengthen his foundation in the engineering and project management field with a heavy focus in detail design and contract administration. As a team member of countless projects at SBA, Daniel is gaining cumulative experience for resolving a wide variety project related obstacles which is shaping him into a well-rounded asset for each successive project taken on.

Since joining the SBA team in early 2013, Daniel has had many roles and responsibilities including: performing on-site field investigations, conducting full and part time site inspections, technical report writing, acting as a lead and assistant project designer, gathering construction quantities and cost estimates, and as a project liaison. Daniel is currently in the process of obtaining his C. Tech certification from OACETT.

Diana Beattie - P.Eng.

Diana is an environmental engineer in training with a diverse background in water system design, environmental site assessments and environmental legislature. Diana’s primary responsibilities at S. Burnett & Associates Limited include water and wastewater system design, contract administration, project coordination and site inspections.

Connor Messner - B.Eng.

Bio

Connor Messner is a Civil Engineering graduate who has past experience in field work, borehole drilling and co-op work within the Wellington County. Connor specializes in areas of Structural, Geotechnical, Sustainability and Project Management. His responsibilities include design, design reviewal, project coordination, and site inspection. 

Connor’s onsite experience has allowed him to make critical decisions and design suggestions for minimizing both time and project costs to ensure all clients needs are met with satisfaction. Connor is an excellent communicator and tends to connect with clients on a personal level to become further involved in projects.

Emily McAuley - B.Sc., M.E.S.

Environmental Project Manager
Bio

Emily has over five years of environmental experience working in the public and private sectors. She has
a background in aquatic toxicology and has completed risk assessments for multiple brownfields and federal contaminated sites. She has a Master in Environmental Science and has five peerreviewed
publications. Emily is an Environmental Project Coordinator working with SBA’s ACEP team.

The SBA Team - Bismark

BISMARK ADU - CET

Senior Site Inspector
Bio

Bismark is a Civil Engineering Technologist / Technician with experience in construction inspection. He is proficient with AutoCAD 2D and Civil 3D, Plan Swift, Cost Plus and Microsoft Project, and including infrastructure planning.

His responsibilities at SBA include site inspection before and during construction, as well as AutoCAD design and a high level of customer service by communicating timelines and ensuring a satisfactory resolution is reached.

The SBA Team - Tara

TARA DELL - B.Sc., B.A., EP

Environmental Project Manager
Bio

Tara is an environmental management professional with experience in project management, environmental assessments, environmental site assessments, funding opportunity management and permitting and approvals. She has a background in geography and environmental management and assessment.

Tara has a wide range of research, computer and analytical skills with knowledge in environmental impact and risk assessments, environmental laws and regulations and environmental compliance. She has assisted with the preparation of funding applications as well as with Environmental Assessments under both the federal and provincial EA processes. Tara’s responsibilities at SBA include project management, reviewing/researching information, project calculations, permitting and approvals, report preparation and proposal development.

Sarah Lionsbridge - P. Geo.

Environmental Geoscientist / Project Manager
Bio

Sarah is a Professional Geoscientist with a demonstrated ability in hydrogeology, environmental management, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and environmental site assessment. 

Sarah works with First Nation, Municipal, and Private Sector clients to successfully manage projects including: hydrogeological assessments, groundwater and aquifer monitoring, landfill monitoring, GIS management, and environmental site assessments and inspection.

Andrea Williams, M.SC., EIT

Water / Wastewater Designer
Bio

Andrea has a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Lakehead University and over 6 years of research and applied knowledge in environmental science. Andrea’s experience while serving both Public and Private Sectors includes water treatment and UV disinfection, Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, landfill monitoring, and municipal water efficiency and conservation strategies.

Andrea will be joining the SBA team as an EIT in the Water & Wastewater group and will be involved with Municipal review and MEA assessments.

Jean-Michell De Martino, MASc., EIT.

Civil Engineer Civil3D Designer
Bio

Jean-Michell is a civil Engineer-In-Training and MASc. in structural engineering with a background in structures, Civil3D, and CAD drafting. He has been involved in a variety of different projects including structural design and modelling, municipal servicing, lot development, building construction for both the private and public sector.

Jean-Michell is certified in both CAD software and structural modelling. His role at SBA is designing for environmental, roads, water resources and structural projects.

Nibhana Suvarna - P.Eng.

Water / Wastewater Engineer
Bio

Nibhana is an Environmental Engineer with over 6 years of experience in water and wastewater system design. She is proficient in process development and design of water and wastewater treatment plants. Her experience also includes preparing equipment sizing calculations, specifications and supporting construction activities. She has worked on the preliminary and detailed design of various water and wastewater facility design and conveyance projects for public and private sector clients.

Blake Aram - B.Eng., EIT

Site Representative
Bio

Blake is an environmental engineering graduate with a background in soil mechanics, water systems design and infrastructure planning. He has been involved in a variety of different projects including
municipal servicing, building construction and road rehabilitation for both the private and public sector.
His main responsibilities include site inspection, contract administration and design review. He is excited
about developing his technical skills with the design team at SBA.

Christina Khawa, HBSc., EMIT

Project Coordinator
Bio

Christina holds a degree from the University of Toronto specializing in environmental health, ethics and control. Her professional career includes experience as a source protection specialist with North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority and most recently with the City of Barrie as a project coordinator for water projects.

With over six years of experience in project coordination, Christina has recently been involved in several solar feasibility projects including array layout modeling, energy performance analyses and application writing for First Nation communities.

Dil S. Toor - CET, EIT

Senior Contract Administrator
Bio

Dil is an experienced contract administrator with 16 years of experience related to the field of structural engineering and construction management and has most recently been involved with Highway and Bridge construction management and contract administration on several MTO projects and City of Brampton projects.

Dil has expert working knowledge of all relevant Ontario Manuals, CAITM, OPSSs, OPSDs, SPs and overall policies, procedures, and guidelines applicable to the construction process and/or deliverables. He is also familiar with all relevant Laws and Regulations concerning to Environmental, Health and Safety etc., which are relevant for application in all construction contracts. Dil possesses excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills in dealing effectively with staff, contractors and clients along with highly developed personal skills in conflict resolution, crisis management and problem solving skills.

Dil has vast contract administration experience in road/bridge construction projects ranging from $3 million to $60 million in construction value. Dil is excellent in administering the project in accordance with the contract specifications to meet the target deadlines and budget for the project. He has a great sense of reviewing issues at hand and delivering the most valuables resolutions.

Dil has also completed the “T131 Advanced Claims Dispute Resolution” Course in enhancing his ability to handle financial claims at a higher scale. In addition, Dil is also certified in Level I and II Precast Plant Inspection by the Pre-cast/Pre-stressed Concrete Institute (PCI).

Stephan Macwan

Stephan earned his Civil Engineering degree in India in 2017 before coming to Canada where he also obtained his Post graduation in Project Management in Montreal and Diploma in Civil Engineering Technican at Mohawk College. Stephan is currently on track to obtain his C.Tech certificate from OACETT. During his career, he has spent some time in the field providing construction inspection. Stephan is certified in both AutoCAD and Revit. His role at SBA is designing for environmental, water resource and structural projects.

Brian Lee

Bio

Brian is a Senior Contract Administrator and has been involved in large residential, commercial and infrastructure projects within the GTA over the last 16 years. Brian has been working as a Senior Inspector and Contract Administrator for approximately the last six years, most recently with WSP as part of their Water & Wastewater Infrastructure group with key roles in planning, implementation, scheduling, operations and document control.

Julia O’Reilly, BASc., EIT

Bio

Julia is a recent chemical engineering graduate from Queen’s University and has joined the Water and Wastewater Team at SBA. Her studies have focused around water and wastewater treatment, biotechnology and chemical process design.

Julia’s main responsibilities at SBA include water and wastewater systems design, report preparation, proposal development, and contract administration.

Tunc is currently undergoing his Engineer-In-Training program with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) with a Masters in Environmental Engineering and a focus on water and wastewater treatment. Tunc’s studies and work experience has revolved around environmental engineering, environmental site assessments, renewable energy, water and wastewater facility design and water quality modelling.

Tunc’s responsibilities at SBA include project coordination, water and wastewater system design, design review and contract administration. He is excited to join the water / wastewater team at SBA.

Patrick King, MASc, EIT

Patrick is a water / wastewater EIT who has completed both his BASc. in Environmental Engineering and MASc. in Civil Engineering (Water) at the University of Waterloo. His Master’s thesis titled “Investigating the Role of Water Quality on the Galvanic Corrosion of Lead in Hard Drinking Water with a Focus on Natural Organic Matter” won the 2021 first place AWWA Academic Achievement Award. His studies and past work experiences have focused on water and wastewater treatment, urban water systems and construction inspections for these projects. Ashley Wohl is a graduate of McMaster University, where she recently completed her Civil Engineering Degree in tandem with her Bachelor of Arts in English and Cultural Studies. Ashley’s education in English and Cultural Studies gives her a unique perspective on engineering practices and how they work in our world and communities. Ashley brings with her strong writing skills, coupled with her academic experience in water treatment and stormwater management, to SBA’s environmental and planning team.

Ryan Kyle, B.URPl, B.HK, Dip. Arch Tech

Environmental Project Manager
Bio

Ryan holds a degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson), a Diploma in Architectural Technology from Georgian College, and a Bachelor of Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa. In his most recent role as a Policy Planner for the Town of Innisfil he was responsible for planning, initiating and administering planning capital projects, conducting site inspections for policy planning projects, and preparing reports on a wide range of planning-related matters. Ryan also has extensive experience in project management / coordination for small to medium projects, as well as experience in architectural design, transportation, commercial and residential construction, policy planning and analysis and research. He is a candidate member of the Professional Standards Board the the Ontario Professional Planners Institute. In his role at SBA, Ryan works with clients on environment, energy, and infrastructure projects.

Courtney Booker, B.ES

Bio

Courtney holds a degree in Environment and Resource Studies with a minor in Biology from the University of Waterloo. She spent more than a decade living and working in northern British Columbia where her work focused on project coordination and First Nations relations. Working on multi-disciplinary teams, she was involved in the development and permitting of wind energy projects, long term trilateral forestry planning, and group facilitation. Now, back in Ontario, she is excited to be a part of the SBA environmental and planning team. She will be working to achieve project coordination excellence for SBA and its project teams.

Nithin Teja Gajje M.Sc, EIT.

Nithin Gajje is a graduate in Civil Engineering and has worked both in the field and in management. He has special knowledge in Project Management, Geotechnical work, and Sustainability. His tasks include making sure projects go smoothly, checking out sites, and reviewing designs.
Nithin experienced in coordinating and overseeing various aspects of construction projects, from inception to completion. Nithin excels in communication and has a knack for building personal connections with clients, thereby becoming more deeply engaged in projects.

Ugochukwu Onwusoro

Bio

Ugochukwu Onwusoro (UG) graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology (General) from the University of Windsor and also has an Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from Confederation College. He is a Certified Type C Aggregate Technician, proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and has knowledge in manufacturing applications like Catia and NX. At SBA, he is involved in site management and field inspection for a variety of projects including water treatment facilities, storage and distribution, sewage treatment and collection systems, road construction, site services, buildings, foundation construction, and construction administration.

Jaclyn is the Executive Assistant at SBA, responsible for assisting staff and supporting management in the office. She has over 10 years of experience in administrative work in the engineering field, as well as a background in creative arts. Her responsibilities include office administration, marketing and promotional, human resources and clerical duties with a focus on quality control of reports, tendering and contract documents, and contract administration.

Dana comes to us with over 8 years of accounting, bookkeeping and payroll experience. Her main role is Payroll, employee expenses, timesheets, and secondary duties include but are not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, organizing the accounting department as well as invoicing.

Laurel Yarenko

Administrative Assistant
Bio

Laurel is the Administrative Assistant at S. Burnett & Associates Limited.  She provides office support  to SBA’s staff by performing administrative and clerical duties. She has over 15 years of experience in the administrative field, including three years in municipal government where she held roles at the Town of Orangeville, Dufferin County and the City of Toronto. 

Monica Raposo, B.Comm., CHRP

Human Resources Generalist
Bio

Monica brings Human Resources (HR) experience from a vairty of industries such as Healthcare, Wellness, and Automotive. As a B.Comm graduate from the University of Guelph, and a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), she is well versed in all sections of HR such as Talent Acquisiton, Employment Law, Benefits and Pension, as well as Employee Relations. She manages the recruitment cycle, legal compliance, health and safety, and labour management relations to ensure that SBA is always following best practies.
