Project Description:

In late spring of 2011, S. Burnett & Associates Ltd. (SBA) was retained by the Township of Emo to provide engineering services related to infrastructure servicing to the town’s public library in the form of a handicap accessibility addition.  The addition to the library is necessary due to the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service, Ontario Regulation 429/07, whereby handicap accessibility is now a mandatory requirement for Municipal governments and the facilities that are run by the Municipalities. This included changing existing infrastructure by use of an expansion of an existing building within the Township of Emo. The new addition is to be attached onto the current public library building in order to provide the library with handicap accessibility.
The scope of work required for this project also included:

  • The creation of engineered drawings for the existing building layout and elevations
  • Designing and calculating various materials for the proposed addition construction
  • Detail drawings for the construction of the addition
  • Engineered drawings for the proposed handicap accessibility addition onto the library

SBA successfully completed this project in collaboration with the Township of Emo, government agencies and non-government agencies.

SBA is currently working with the Township of Emo in order to create a handicap accessibility addition onto the current library.  This will entail designing and calculating to ensure the addition will effectively fit within the constraints of the surrounding environment.
